Why do new writers get on here asking for advice that they immediately disregard?
Post Body

It is frustrating to so often see the following happen. Someone get on here daydreaming about their world-changing work of art. Their post is, of course, filled with uninspired writing and egregious mistakes. They’ll ask how to achieve their goals, and I will give some form of basic writing advice: “Work on your grammar, spelling, and sentence structures.” Invariably, they’ll respond with something like, “I don’t agree with that.”

I have an advanced degree in English and have taught writing. Now, I am not claiming to be Hemingway, but I have experience in the field. I know that we’re living in a time where people believe that having an opinion is all you need to be correct, but if you want to get better, then you need to listen to advice.
