Hi, writers of Reddit! A question that probably comes up often: how did the experienced writers in this group go from bullet-point writing stories to being able to tell them in a consumable way? I know this question is very "how to write 101" but I'm genuinely curious about other people's trajectory from the frozen place to the place of doing and making progress.
I know reading books in the genre of interest, just doing the damn writing, and seeking out feedback via training/workshops and online groups are the most-oft given advice. I still find myself stuck in this place of unbearably paralyzing awareness of my current writing level. I think my main hangup is that keen awareness of this lack of ability; the massive walls of inexperience and the lack of skill that I have to confront when I sit down in front of a keyboard.
The worst part is I've been a writer for the past 10 years in every capacity but a creative one and STILL find myself unable to tell my stories. I've been: a blogger, copywriter, content marketer, managing editor, journalist...but I guess the common thing all those jobs had was the fact that all the writing work was short / one-off; not a multichapter narrative like writing a book or a screenplay.
Anyhoot, lots of love for everyone in their own creative pits, and to the ones overcoming it: I hope to hear from you all :)
