I have a story idea, and I would like some feedback and possibly ideas on how to improve or different directions I can take it.
Post Body

I had this idea for a while and was heart broken when I found a story just like it. I hear it happens a lot in the writing world.

Anyway, my story is very much like "I Signed Up To Be The Substitute Familiar Of A Struggling Witch To Pay My Bills And I'm Just Now Realizing What I Got Myself Into". I would like ideas on how to make it ever so slightly more unique. If you haven't read that story, it's about a person who becomes a familiar for money and ends up enjoying it to the point they don't want to be human again.

My story, however, is similar. I have changed my story a few times to make it work and to make it more unique. Anyway, my story is about a young in the closet trans girl taking the big sleep and getting reincarnated as a familiar to a struggling mage. I like the whole reincarnation aspect, but it doesn't really add any stakes to my story. She gets reincarnated and then gets to be happy. Where's the conflict? So my solution was that she gets reincarnated as a familiar, but only for a short time, and with certain catches. She ends up wanting to stay a familiar and tries to cheat Death - he made her a familiar - to stay with her Mage.

If anyone has any other ideas, I'll be happy to hear them. Like if maybe she applied for a job or something? That isn't similar to the story listed above. Or someone gave her a second chance at life. I would like help getting my story to be different and make more sense.

Thank you :)
