Not sure if my wrestling team in hs was different than everyone else, but what was everyone's training sessions in hs like? I'm in California and it always seemed like my team favored escaping and defense over everything. We relied a lot on live wrestling for conditioning to scramble out of bad positions and partner drills to build up strength. The only takedowns we've been formally taught are the double leg and hi crotch. Even from recently visiting, it's the only takedowns I saw my school do. I've also learned most moves from my teammates and online, only a few from my coaches. Always wanted to help out somehow for that reason.
Hell even after, I started learning ways of getting out from bottom and just discovered the fireman's carry. Is that normal?
