Was picking up leather working to craft my own gear dumb?

Post Body

I am leveling through Dragonflight and picked up skinning and leatherworking so i could craft some higher ilevel pieces. I’m terrible at gold making but was hoping to make a little on the side.

I just unlocked some ilevel 330 pieces and was about to craft one, untill I looked at the AH. For 45 gold I could buy the same piece that would require skinning mats that I could sell for 300 gold each. Doesn’t make any sense. Why even make the piece when u could sell the mats required and have enough to buy 5 of them.

Even Feral Drums of War is selling at a loss, which I was hoping would be my side gig. You can make more just selling the mats than actually making the drums.

At this point, it seems like I could have just picked up alchemy, sold a few potions, and then just bought whatever gear I want. Should I just stop doing leatherworking? Am I wasting my time?
