I had fournier's gangrene surgery a little over a month ago. Things are going well and I'm almost healed. I'm doing wet to dry bandage dressing once a day. The current open wound is running right in the crease where the thigh meets the vaginal area.

My first period I luckily happened in hospital 2 days post surgery, so I had help doing everything at that point. Things are very different now, as I am home.

I am mobile. Mostly just get up to pee, grab a quick drink from the fridge. They mostly want me not walking around causing friction and sweat to the area.

I started my period and I can't use tampons. Any idea on how to best manage this? My husband has been doing my bandage changes once a day like he's supposed to but he HAS to go to work which means if I need a bandage change while he's at work, I'm going to have to do it myself and well, it's a hard area to see. I've had to do it once in an emergency situation and I missed a whole portion of it. The wound was much bigger then, but I really don't want to mess this up.

Right now I have on the net type maternity underwear you get in OB and that holds the dry abdominal pads on that's over the wet gauze. No tape situation.

I currently have put a huge period pad on like you normally wear one. but haven't got to the heavy flow part yet and I've already soiled the gauze with menstrual blood. Any suggestions to better manage this would be great.

AGAIN, EVERYTHING IS WELL UNDER CONTROL, just need advice on how to best manage this specific dressing snafu.

No medical advice on wound is needed just some tips and tricks to help out this situation. Again, location is crease between thigh and genitals.
