The new stage isn't trivial so it's hard to get a lot of steals per run and those steals adds very little extra gil per run. Successful steals are still 70/25/5 bronze/silver/gold so you will average only an additional 14,750 gil per successful steal.

On average the stage will net you 1,593,000 during double drop event. That means each steal is worth only a 0.9%. You stand to gain far more gil by maximizing the number of runs you get in.

Here are the most optimal options for maximizing gil gained during the event:

1. If you can burn all your NRG pots each day using a mug team, do that.
2. If you cannot, use a mug team until the end of the day and burn the rest of your NRG with skip tickets
3. If you don't have the skip tickets to burn, build a team that can clear the stage as quickly as possible.

Personally, I'm just going to build a team that can clear the stage as fast as possible. Event skip tickets are too valuable to waste on so little gil.
