Hi, Buckethead here. Now that FF4 banners have started to arrive on gl, I think I should talk a bit about the upcoming events related to the ff4 units. If you have been following the JP side of WotV, you will know that FF4 banners are followed by a box event. So, I am here now to talk a bit about what units you will want to raise for the stages and what skills you want to priortize on them for this. This is a guide for people who want to farm hard for event reward or chase highscore. If you dont have the units that are most suited for this box event, dont panic. The event offers some pre-crafted copies of the gear, so it is not that impossible for players to farm a 4 or even 5 of the event gear despite not having the best setup. Just save up some nrg pots to prepare for the stages

The bonus units, assuming unchanged from JP, are the following:

  • Extra large boost:Cecil, Rosa, Kain

  • Large boost: Aileen, Viktora

  • Medium boost: Chel, Ramada

  • Non-existent boost: Mont

Like the last event, all bonus units except mont perform decently against specific mobs in the normal stages, so the more the merrier, but normal stage points aren't the most important thing in the world so let's move on to the boss stage.

The Boss here is good ol lunarian Golby, a dark human type enemy weak against pierce dmg. He does quite a decent amount of dark magic dmg, both aoe and ST along with spr break. The annoying part of this fight are that golbez is only a 1x1 enemy instead of 2x2 like 2HD, so there is less space to position your units around him, and he loves running around the map.

While the enemy is weak to light pierce, if you remembered the behemoth raid, you will know that all light pierce units rn sux, and non of them are even bonus units. Therefore, you can only effectively utilize 1 of the 2 weaknesses. While Pierce has a great amount of units with a bonus, the main pierce chainer-Glaciela, is not. Pierce units also cannot effectively elemental chain together, and have positioning problems around golbez since a lot of their attacks hit a small area around the target. Therefore, while a good pierce comp still handles golbez just fine on auto, to get to the better scores, it is much better to utilize the other weakness of the boss via light slash, which has Cecil among the bonus units, and a great partner in Ramza.

The problem is other than Cecil who is free atm, all other top light slash chainers are limited units, as in Ramza, Thancred and Warrior of Light. If you didn't have any of them, you might have to use some other comp, the next best option is dark slash with vinera ssterne shadowlynx Kain or pure pierce with Glaciela Viktora Aileen. These comps will not be able to compete with light slash for points but are still quite passable.

For the important supporting units of this comp, Viktora, Chel and Ramada all are time mages that can hold Golby in place and extend the chains, while Kain can use his lb to slow Golby's CT progression. You will want either 2 CT stealers or 1 CT stealer Kain to properly control Golby.

Rosa can help a bit with the AP generation with her LB, and there are 2 bonus mobs for her to kill with ice missile dmg. Aileen has 2 thunder mobs that she can kill for some boosts to the overkill dmg rating but otherwise provides nothing. A third light slash unit can also help here if you dont have those 2 above.

TL:DR a core light slash comp of Cecil Ramza and either Kain time mage(preferable Viktora, Chel or Ramada for bonus points) or 2 time mages is recommended if you want to compete for something like a top 100. Rosa and Aileen help with the score but are replaceable with other utility units.

If you want the best comp, I'd say it's probs Cecil Rosa Kain Viktora Ramza.


Cecil

Cecil's main role here is to chain Light slash. However, if you dont own Ramza, Cecil is the next best light chainer, so you want to set him up with bell and also level up his 32 ap small aoe to clear the annoying skeleton mobs.

IF you want to squeeze some more points from regular levels, some mobs are weak to light bash instead of light slash so you can pick up his monk skills for those, but the differences will be pretty minor

Rosa

Rosa doesn't really have much to do in the boss stage. Her LB is nice to generate some AP but it is quite costly to level for what it offers. Other than that, she can help kill some mobs and take out the bonus mobs that are weak to ice missile for some minor points.

Kain

Kain's job here is mainly to use his LB to slow Golby. After that, he can just mop up whatever mob is left that other units dont have the turns to mop up. Note that it's better give him a high TP tmr cuz he needs his lb at turn 2 and kain isn't the best at generating AP(a roughly 50% ap gain boost can also do the trick)

Viktora/Chel/Ramada

I'll talk about these together since their functionality are pretty similar. They want to steal Golby's CT to help maintain the chain. They generally wont get much time to do anything else anyways. Obviously, any fast thief can do what they can do, but they are the ones that gives bonus points.

Aileen

Offers almost no utility on her own, usually too slow to contribute to the slash chain before one of the light slash units can start the light chain. Just get as much dmg on her to kill the 2 lightning mobs for as much overkill dmg as possible.

Burst Slash(J1) 24AP In my experience, the cheapest skill that can hit the damage cap on the lightning mobs, might need a better skill if you dont do enough dmg or have more spare AP to throw around.

Ramza

Ramza is the best damage dealer here since although he generally has less atk than Cecil, he has 3 hits instead of 2 on a skill with similar mods. The big problem for him is his aoe is weaker than Cecil's, if your ramza doesn't hit hard enough with taunting spell to kill the skeletons even with helps, you might want to give the bell to Cecil for him to clear the mobs instead.

Both much worse replacement for Ramza, unfortunately both limited as well. Warrior of Light needs his LB and Shift Attack. Thancred needs Keen Edge. Unfortunately the FF14 rerun hasn't happened on gl and Thancred is missing the 100 additional atk from his MA2.


PS: Some info on my future guides. I was quite burnt out on wotv cuz gumi did a real good job killing my hype for anni, so was taking a break from wotv on the new JP octopath gacha(it's pretty nice btw). Been getting back to wotv after anni. I probs wont be writing much about raids in the future, cuz for the most part, they are slowly moving from high end content from when they were first released to autoable content that they are now in JP. I feel like most people just cant be bothered. I can probs count the non standard comp rooms I've seen in the last 2 raids with just 1 hand. My future guides will probs more on preparations for towers and challenging events etc.

Here's some FF4 music for your pulls on Kain/Rosa next week, or just deal with the gloom that a box event is coming.
