Great Joseon
Following the Declaration of Great Joseon in 2028, Korea has existed in a state of internal change.
With His Majesty the King aging into his mid-seventies, eyes are increasingly turned to his son and heir - who is also simultaneously the Chief State Councillor and head of the biggest party in the Jungchuwon. Yi Kwon is the true father of Joseon - the restoration was his prize project, and the past nine years have seen him lead the effort of culturally transforming Korea.
Neo-Joseon thought, the tenements of which can be seen here, here, and here are at the center of this transformation. Schools now teach all aspects of Neo-Joseon thought, as is state-mandated, and laws institutionalizing aspect of Neo-Joseon thought have been passed en masse.
The threat of the Communists in the North has also largely been dealt with - through mass prison camps of the most rebellious, and through re-education under Neo-Joseon values for the less rebellious. But now there is a new threat - the pro-democracy parties. Though the main pre-Joseon parties were eradicated during the Korean civil war, pro-democracy parties have had a resurgence in the Jungchuwon as people begin to chafe under a decade of Yi Kwon's rule. With the prospect of Yi Kwon simultaneously becoming the King and the Chief State Councillor and the head of the largest party in Korea, the Democratic Korea Movement achieved major victory in the 2036 special elections. Called by Yi Kwon with the intent of strengthening his majority, his governing Grand Joseon Party-Liberty Korea Party coalition was nearly ousted - only held together through its military allies in government.
Yi Kwon does not plan on going easy, intending to use the full power of his office to retain power.
