Breaking news! The Landtag in Bavaria has been rocked by the success of the Bavaria Party! Eating into voting bases across the state but most specifically the CSU, FW and AFD, the party has secured 48 seats in the Landtag and significant gains in Bezirktags.
Voters increasingly feel disillusioned with the policies being undertaken in Berlin, especially as despite their limited say as a state, they pay a proportionally large share of the taxes. The Bavaria Party has also gained popularity by taking up the cause of non-interventionism, saying that the government of Bavaria should focus on the interests of Bavaria, not the ambitions of Berlin politicians. Recent polling conducted by local media, both sympathetic and not, shows that support for independence has risen from around 33% as it has been for a while, to within the margin of error of federal government supporters.
The CSU has held onto control over the Landtag but only by accepting a formal coalition agreement with the Bavaria Party within the Bavarian Landtag, giving up crucial cabinet picks and massive political concessions. Some within the CSU even have gone as far as to propose a merge of the FW, CSU and BP into a large Bavarian People’s coalition to best represent the independent identity of Bavaria. The recent congress of the CSU has seen the adoption of multiple Bavarian Nationalist planks, including calls to push the CDU to make legislation that would make secession and an independence referendum legal. Political experts say this campaign owes its success to an aggressive social media organizing campaign, allowing the BP and Bavarian Nationalists to gain traction and influence in an explosive manner. It seems as if the CDU will need to either give in to the demands of the CSU or face a hostile State and face the possible fall of their administration.
