The Democratic Republic of the Congo has reviewed its position on the Republic of Katanga, which was recognised by former President Desiré Kasa-Saso. President Minshahe Bapamo has however retracted the government's official recognition of the Republic of Katanga and will from now on treat it as an secessionist rebel province. He assured that the DRC is not going to take immediate military action against Katanga and that he wishes for a peaceful reunion with the integrally Congolese province. This message likely excited Congolese and Katangans alike.

In the same speech, he spoke out in support of the Congolese Neo-Nkrumaist-Sankarist Union (Province of Katanga) (UNSC(PK)), the Katangan branch of Bapamo's UNSC, which would consist of the Katangans who joined the March of Unity to Kinshasa and who would also support a reunification with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
