Outside of Temple Square, Salt Lake City, many passerby's saw a peculiar man standing on a large stage, holding a microphone- surrounded by him on both flanks were younger men wearing shirts with golden beehives on them. This man is Paul Ray- a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, back when it was a thing. One of his more famous actions in politics was supporting Californian independence. Not because he was a Californian nationalist, but because he really hated all the "far-left liberal whining" from California. The speech he gave had a similar message...
"I've had it with all these damn plutocrats running our state of Utah from Olympia! We ain't one of them- we don't vote Grand Unionist, Labour, Neo-Technocrat, or Greater Cascadia- because we ain't one of them! Every national elections, we vote for an independent Utahn! Every gubernatorial election, we vote independent! We're sendin' our message to those liberals on the coast, that we ain't Cascadian! Yet those smug jerks, they just smile and say 'if you love conservatism so much, why don't you just vote Greater Cascadia?' and I'll say because we ain't Cascadian, and Greater Cascadia ain't care about us! There is only one option for the future of Utah- our independence! That's always been our only option! When the good men with Brigham Young came to settle this land as the great state of Deseret a long time age, they wanted to be free. We had to fight them, and when we lost, the U.S. stripped them of their rightful land not once, not twice, not three times, four times, five times but six times! That ain't very fair, is it?"
"Look. all I'm saying is that our future ain't Cascadian, it's Utahn. As Utahns, it's our duty to create a better future for ourselves , a Utahn future, one without Cascadia.*
Near the stage, men at tables were handing out pamphlets with a golden beehive on the front. The pamphlet talked about a new political party- the Utah National Party. It talked about the Party's goals- which was the creation of the independent republic of Utah, separate from Cascadia, along with the territories of western Colorado, southeastern Idaho, southwestern Wyoming, and even southeastern Oregon, belonging to the republic. These four territories were once a part of Deseret, or "Greater Utah", as the pamphlet calls it, and often share similar anti-plutocratic sentiments that the Utah National Party has. The party has set up a website and is planning action in the upcoming Cascadian elections.
