Following Prince Charles IV's shock dissolution of the NC in February, the people of Monaco have made clear their ambition to go to the polling stations again. As such, elections will take place to elect twenty members to the National Council. This election is somewhat controversial, given that Prince Charles himself has vetted the nominations list from both parties. His staff claims this is to prevent the crisis of October 2023, where the NC essentially shut down over tax legislation arguments - critics claim it is tantamount to rigging the elections.
The leader of the majority party will become President of the National Council. There are two parties vying for seat:
- Horizon Monaco - a right-wing, economically conservative party. Christophe Steiner has made a surprise return to front line politics, returning to the leadership of this party after previously serving as President.
- Union Monégasque - a centrist party. The incumbents, whose new leader Fabien Nicolas is hoping to wipe the slate clean after his predecessor's removal as President.
[M] The election results shall be decided by the roll. Anywhere between 1-10 inclusive will represent a win for Horizon Monaco - the lower the number the bigger the majority - and anywhere between 11-20 will represent a win for Union Monégasque with the same caveat.
