different countries different situations. For example: my father was forced to do his military service in yugoslavia which silenced him and he was forced to hide being religious alongside always being watched. A soldier one time nearly shot him because he tried to catch a bus and afterwards told him to fuck off. His village was 50 years in the past and no one even bat an eye to improve the situation.
It would have been a greater tragedy and dishonoje to fight for that country than to escape which he did.
