What is fantasy before modern times like?
Post Body

Like I associate premodern with "old stuff before the invention of television", it is not a particular date, but technically premodern doesn't go back that much, it's around the Battle of Hastings to the Victorian Era. Human civilization has been around for like 6k years.

So when I see premodern fantasy, I think of like "fantasy with old setup", while the technical meaning would be fantasy around Chaucer to Shakespeare.

But like I imagine, even the world in Beowulf or King Arthur's time wasn't that different, I mean, I don't know. But they used bows and spears, had like kings and peasants and muskets maybe, and like they spoke Old English with "thee" and "thou" and made sexual innuendos about "sweet meat". In the first place, why don't we just call it all premodern fantasy? Are there like distinguishing features of different eras and do like any fantasy stories use them?

Why should names be pronounceable anyway?
