So I've been working on fitting Elves into my Greek mythology inspired world for a little while and I present the results here:
Elves are the result of interbreeding between humans and nature spirits (nymphs), specifically dryads, naiads, & nereids. Those with dryad ancestry (Tree Elves) have dark to light brown skin and hair, with brown, amber, or green eyes. Water Elves have pale skin, and blue hair and eyes with freshwater typically being lighter blue and saltwater deeper. The elf pictured here is an example of a Water Elf. When elves of different types reproduce with each other the child shares the characteristics of the parent whose gender they share. Other than that they share the pointy ears and slender build of traditional fantasy Elves.
Elves can reproduce with either parent species. Doing so results in either a half-elf or an Eladrin respectively, the Eladrin just being a "super-Elf".
Elves have a lifespan and maturity rate approximately twice as long as humans, entering puberty in their 20s, full physical maturity in their 30s, and a lifespan of approximately 150 years.
Most first-generation Elves are born to nymph mothers and human fathers, and so raised with the nymphs. As such there are few Elf communities although a few have arisen and developed their own distinct culture. The largest of these and the only one that could properly be called a state is called Numis.
Though slightly less physically imposing than humans magic is more common among them, plant magic and water magic in particular.
