Tips on adapting a story to a timeline when your main creatures are incredibly long-lived?

Post Body

I'm having some trouble adjusting VERY long lifespans to a timescale which incorporates creatures with much shorter ones (think 15,000 compared to 200, for instance) and I was wondering if anyone had encountered similar problems and what steps you took to fix them? I'm considered creating a new calendar and adjusting years to be long in THOSE years while still shorter (think 150 versus 20) in Gregorian years. Would that make sense and if not, what advice could you give?
