No, not that kind of dating. With any world that has a generally civilised society, there's going to be a sort of system for the date and time. In my world, I've decided to follow the classic Tolkien way of dating, splitting the years up into different Ages. The issue I've run into, however, is how I should decide on how many years should be in each age, and when certain events should happen (as I've come up with a few specific events that happen throughout, but I am unsure of what years to place them in, especially the ones that happen later). So far, I've just sort of guessed at how many I'd want in each Age (of which there are eight) depending on how the world is at the time, but I feel like there's just too many years to fill with history as detailed as I'd want it to be. I thought about getting rid of the system for now, coming up with events then placing them in after, but then I run into the issue of not knowing what year to make said events happen. Any advice on how I could develop some sort of system to do this? How do you decide on the years in your world? Thanks in advance
