Purple: Kingdom of Brethnar

Orange: Kingdom of Velsarrad

Background and causes:

Around thirty years ago, Velsarrad was invaded and wiped out by its neighbours including Brethnar. However, Velsarrad quickly reemerged through armed insurgency, retaking a portion of its original land.

Eager to rejoin the motherland, radical Velsarran nationalists living in what used to be part of Velsarrad, join together and take up arms against Brethnar.

Though the Velsarran government is trying to stay out of war for the time being until they can rebuild infrastructure, an army, and sort out politics and government, they are eager to regain more of their original land.

They quickly proceed to arm the rebels and send reinforcements. The Brethnar government looks forward to a long, drawn out war, but when it becomes clear that the rebels are backed by Velsarrad, there's a fair bit of disarray. The Governor of the Velsarrad province panics and signs over the entire province to the Velsarran government, but several corps of the Brethnar army continue to fight, now completely encircled.

Running out of military power, the Brethnar government signs over all of Velsarrad's original land as well as a small piece of Brethnar's land.

What comes next:

Tensions are still high with Dronoth to the west, as Dronoth played a decisive role in Velsarrad's temporary annihilation. The two have long been fierce competitors, and the Velsarran people are eager to see the two kingdoms go to war. The two are the biggest powers in the Oak Stretch by far.
