/r/DawnPowers - a Cooperative Worldbuilding Subreddit
Post Body

One thing that I've come to rely on in my worldbuilding is interactions with other people, be it incorporating their character backstories into the world or using them as a springboard of ideas. The details, I find, are best found in the minds of others, since it is a good way to prevent them becoming contrived.

If you're anything like me, you may be interested in /r/DawnPowers.

What is it? Dawnpowers is a cooperative worldbuilding exercise starting in the technological equivalent of 6000BC on an alternate, but nevertheless very Earth-like planet (we're no-fantasy, too). Players stake a claim to a territory on the map of the known world and thereafter play the role of the people of a culture as they develop throughout the ages, gaining technology and make societal progress. As infrastructure improves, you'll be able to form nations and empires, too.

How do I play? Fundamentally, DawnPowers is rooted in roleplay and we prefer not to restrict that much as the depth and breadth of cultural stories is important to us. There are a number of systems to facilitate balance and order, the most important being the claim/expansion system and technology, which are best explained by our wiki.

Dawnpowers is best played when players interact with each other, their peoples engaging in diplomacy, conflict, theological discussion and technological and cultural exchange. No society ever developed in a vacuum, so why should any worldbuilder be expected to create a world - or even a single culture - in the vacuum of their own mind?

If you've any interest, please do check out our wiki and the resources in the sub sidebar, too. Also feel free to ask questions, I'll be floating around.
