Is it an imperial federation, monarchy, unions, etc? Have there been notable reforms? How do they handle internal and external conflicts?
A large number of habs & planets in the Vetruvian Sphere (confederation of settlements that follow the morphological blueprint laid down by the Vetruvian Man rather than assuming more exotic shapes, and yes morphology IS one of the primary political divisions) have offices assigned by Sortition.
I.e they draw your name from a hat and now you're in charge of something. It works... decently okay actually. Most Transgenics have a passing competence for most things. The protagonist's mom ran her planet 200 years ago for about 20 years. Liked it well enough
