How would you justify the creation of the universe by imperfect, un-all-knowing gods?

I have this rough idea about a singular unknown entity in the void that is in deep eternal slumber. Then it dreamt, and from its dream came forth 8 gods of creations; 4 in charge of the unseen (like soul, life, sentience), and 4 in charge of the physical (body and nature).

But these 8 gods do not know what their purpose were and they have no ways of knowing since their creator is asleep and cannot be awoken.

Now, there's this gap in my world building on how to justify how these immature gods came up to creating a world that actually makes sense. People know of the gods' existence too, but they have differing ideas of their intentions and purpose. Which sprouts forth conflicting religions and beliefs. The gods do not communicate with them, merely watching from afar; observing and learning as the humans do.

There will also be monsters, abominations and supernatural creatures existing alongside the humans. I am inclined to believe these creatures may be the result of the gods' mistakes and flawed nature.

Is it possible to make a world where both the creation and creators have character development?
