Background: just turned 50. Used to exercise in my teens and 20s. Started again 8 months ago.
Got serious 6 months ago, and got TRT from last year’s pituitary surgery. Split dose .25ml 2x week.
5’10 209lbs. Down 22lbs in 6 months. Look wildly different. Feel good! Wife loves it. I love it.
Past few months, I’m not getting stronger, weight cutting is stalling, and I’m sore when I start my cycle!
Prioritized Wants: Cutting for visible abs (10-15 more lbs)! Bigger delts, stronger legs, grow lats, reduce low back pain (2 old bulging disks).
Don’t want: tricep work, as they grow anyway on me. | Chest focus, as it’s close to where I want it now and the rest needs to catchup.
Program:
Intensity- cannot finish last set of any exercise. When I can, I up weight or reps.
Day 1: Shoulders, abs. 10 sets each of 8-15 reps depending on exercise. Abs are 15-30 reps
Day 2: Legs, chest. 12 legs, 8 chest. 8-15 reps depending on exercise (chest is good, focus is legs)
Day 3: Back, Bis, abs. 9 sets back, 3 bis, 8 abs. 8-15 reps depending on exercise. Abs are 15-30 reps
Day 4: rest
Additional on some days: a 30-60 minute brisk walk
Daily Diet:
Cutting last 3-4 months at this level with one cheat day per month, and one cheat meal per week.
1950-2150 calories daily
Creatine supplements and vitamins. I should drink more water, according to everyone
4am - 2 large coffees w 2% milk, no sugar
5am - Pre workout shake: 2 scoops protein, .5 banana, 1 scoop of peanut powder, .5 cup blueberries, splash of 2% milk, ice n water
6am: workout 1 hour
730am - 3 scrambled eggs
12 - Low glycemic lunch
3pm - handful of nuts or an avocado
6pm - low glycemic dinner
9pm - small fatty or carbo snack w protein (sometimes a small shake for this)
I lately feel sore walking back into my 1st workout. Today is the day where I just can’t do it. I’ll hurt my shoulder for sure if I try.
Should I go to 2 days off after my 3 training days? Is it the calorie restriction and cutting? I wasn’t as sore before as nowadays. I recently took a 3 day break and I’m extra sore and slightly weaker across the board since then.
What am I doing wrong?
I want my friggin’ abs, please. Not losing all my gains wouldn’t suck too.
