Can I start taking creatine when I’m cutting?

I’ve taken creatine in the past, with great results. That being said, I was bulking during previous cycles and I was working out almost everyday. Recently however, I’ve stopped working out and stopped taking creatine. It’s been a few months and I hate how I’ve gained some fat. I wanted to start taking creatine again but I also want to work on cutting the fat that I’ve gained. Do I have to be on a bulk while taking creatine to see/feel the effects? Or am I just overthinking all of this?
