I am a director in a start up company and I’ve been there for about 18 months.
The culture is so toxic. Constant back stabbing. It’s like I have 15 different bosses. I spend most days in meetings explaining decisions or why something really isn’t a system error. And then I have to work all night and all weekend to make up for the time lost since I have no time to do any of my actual work. I am so burned out.
I brought in someone who used to work with me a couple of months ago (they have since stopped all hiring) and I feel so guilty. He just started and I brought him into this shitty culture and now I am trying to leave.
I am remote - I travel to HQ once a month. I have been remote since pre covid and I don’t intend to work in an office ever again. I love remote work and the flexibility it gives me with my kids.
But when I look at remote job postings on LinkedIn they have hundreds of applicants already. How could I ever stand out in a pool of 700 applicants? It seems impossible.
For my current job I was contacted on LinkedIn by a headhunter. But that feels like a once in a lifetime thing and will probably never happen again.
I just paid to have my resume re-done and I’m also not super happy with that but I paid a lot of money for it so I feel like I just need to move on.
But applying for remote work feels so daunting. Sifting thru hundreds of job postings and finding one that I feel like I’m a great fit for and it already has hundreds of applicants. I don’t even bother applying because what’s the point.
Is there a better way?
