Weighing benefits and drawbacks in considering onsite jobs.

Post Body

I currently work remotely and love it. I've often sworn I would never go back to an office environment. I also moved to a smaller town, which aligns more with what I enjoy doing like homesteading. I can write a long list of benefits that I enjoy in working from home.

However, I recently started browsing jobs and found a couple jobs that fit very well with where I want to go with my career (basically upper management and eventually executive). I applied for one position without really reflecting on this and it is onsite. It'd be a great opportunity, but is not remote and likely won't be. It's also 4hrs away and would be tricky to work. I'd have to figure out a commute or move.

Here are my questions to the community. I'm not looking for a particular answer, rather general thoughts on what would get you back into the office.

What are some things you would consider in applying for and possibly later accept an on-site job?

If you moved away from a city, aka more jobs, how much does that weigh in your decision in a job search?

Assuming a partner or family is relevant, how would you explain an opportunity vs lifestyle choices already made? What would you do if you got the dream job, but it conflicts with partner/family feedback?

Looking for general discussion and ideas, more than particulars in the jobs I'm looking at. Generally, the jobs I'm seeing that align really well with my goals are onsite. There are similar remote jobs, but I'm being pretty picky right now. Going for quality over quantity since I'm currently employed and compensation is not a primary motivator.

If I have a decision right now it is how patient I'm going to be in looking vs how flexible am I on remote vs onsite vs hybrid.
