Has anybody else picked up on this in their office? I swear, every time I eavesdrop in on my married coworkers' conversations with those of the opposite sex who are also married, there's always a heavy layer of flirtation involved. Just the other day, I overheard one guy who is a manager cheekily say to a female director, "Go fuck yourself" and she responds with a grin, "Maybe already did..." This woman who is also a manager and is married just spent the last 20 minutes talking to this other guy who is getting married, and fawning over his stories about some home improvement work he's doing in this heavy petting way. I could go on with more examples of other married people at my place engaging in similarly very, very casual conversation that go beyond your basic "being friendly and comfortable with your coworkers" demeanor and reads between the lines as something else.
My takeaway from it has been this: married people feel safer to act like this with other people who are married, because they know (or at least I hope they do...) that at the end of the day, there's nothing more to it, but man, at the same time, I can't help but feel like whatever they're going back to at home must not be giving that fix anymore either...
