Router table groove cut advice

I have 4 ft length piece of wood and I need to make some grooves in the middle so how would I do it on the router table since it’s against the grain. I’m new to woodworking in a certain sense. I’m making a casssette tape holder and needing to make a cross halving for support. Any advice helps, thank you
