I picked up this guy as my first lathe yesterday. I did quite a bit of research about it and it looks to be a jet-clone at a reasonable price. While setting it up for the first time, I managed to snap the weld on the bolt that secures the banjo to the bed; I half expected something to go wrong, so I'm not exactly heartbroken about it. I'll be able to return the broken part and they will get me taken care of.
I also slid the tailstock in until it met the spindle. When switched on, before the two were touching, there was almost zero vibration. When it met the spindle, I had to wiggle the tailstock a bit to get them to sit together well. When turned on while pressed together, there was quite a bit more vibration. Is this normal or is it an alignment issue that should be addressed via HF's return policy?
Since this is my first lathe, I don't know what else I should be looking for in terms of manufacturing defects. Any and all info/advice is appreciated.
