I am very close to finishing a small gift for my wife for Valentine's Day and am (Clearly) running a bit short on time, I should be finished with everything except finish tonight.
The project is a pair of interlocked hearts carved from a single block of cherry. I should have it sanded up to 600 grit tonight, and will need to start finishing it either late tonight or tomorrow during the day.
I happen to have some Tung Oil Finish as well as a wipe on poly on hand already, but I am not sure what the best finish is for this wood. I carved it out of cherry because I wanted the grain to stand out in the finished product; it probably won't be handled much once it is completed so I am not really worried about it getting tons of abuse. I have time to go out and get a new finish tomorrow and might be able to get two coats on before V day if someone has an idea that would work better than what I already have on hand.
Tung Oil Finish on cherry alone? Tung first then poly? Any advice is greatly appreciated as I am still very new to this hobby. Thanks in advance.
