Best way to prevent separation/warping at these joints?

Post Body

Pressure-treated 2โ€x8โ€ top plate on a little fence I built. (Theyโ€™re not fastened down yet.) Just looking for advice on the best way to do the joints. I was thinking a 45 on the ends, but worried they might warp even worse in the heat on the thin edge. Other option is to just butt them square up against each other. Any better ideas out there?
