Drawer lock router bit — shredded the drawer side —what did I do wrong?

Post Body

How do I not mangle the plywood? Before I mangled this, it was going to be a drawer side. I ran it vertically across the bit. I tried 6,000 rpm, went down to 4,000 rpm, helped a little but just barely. The front and back pieces that you press outside face up on the table didn’t get shredded like this. Do I need to orient the side pieces 90° next time so the grain is running with the bit?

Also use better material that doesn't have a layer of veneer thinner than an ass hair glued on with some smokers spit
