Securing screws in wood

Post Body

A couple years ago I built a table top from some reclaimed soft wood planks. I secured some metal legs in the top with screws.

Now the table has become very wobbly as the legs must have become loose. I also made a similar bench and previously the legs also came loose and then completely came off.

Is there a best way to secure screws into a soft wood so that they won’t come loose? How can I repair the loose screws? Fill the holes with wood glue?

Thanks.
