For some context, I picked up The Witcher 3 early last year and tried to play it, but I felt really lost on pretty much everything about 2 hours in. I didn't understand the world or the characters. So I picked up the first game to play through that, but I felt similarly lost in that game too. This is when I figured out that there are actually books predating the game series, so I decided to pick them up and read through them first.
I've been looking forward to playing the games for a little over a year now, but I've been slowly reading through the books. I don't think the books are bad, but I'm not really too into them either. I just finished Time of Contempt and I'm not really looking forward to reading the next book like I usually do when reading a series.
So my question is whether I should continue reading the books or just jump into the games now. I feel like I'll have a better feel for the characters and the world now that I've read through 4 of the books. However, there are three books (I think) left in the series for me to read, and I don't want to jump into the games if there are major characters or plot points that'll really enhance the games for me. Is reading through the first four books enough, or should I continue through the next few before starting?
