So I've read the first 3 books in the Witcher series, The Last Wish, Sword of Destiny, and Blood of Elves. I started reading them because I wanted to play the games. I really love the books, but I'm not playing through any games right now and I'd like to start the first Witcher game. I played through the first 20 minutes, but I felt like I didn't really understand anything, which is why I started reading the books. But I know who the characters at the start are now after reading Blood of Elves.

I'm going out to grab the 4th Witcher book tomorrow, and I'll be reading it even if I play the game. Now my question is, should I be doing this? Am I still going to miss out on a lot of lore, or will it spoil anything major from the books?

I already know the spoiler at the end of the last book, so that isn't really a problem. But I don't want to start playing this if it's going to severely alter my enjoyment of either the games or the books.
