Incorporating Hinduism into western occult practices

I guess I would describe my practice as hermetic esotericim, although really I am an eclectic and try to incorporate anything that speaks to me and works. I've always had a fascination with Hinduism, and when I need to use a male deity, I use Ganesha. I also use mantra, and the concept of atman/brahmin is the most eloquent approach to the notion of the soul and eternity that I know of. Although admittedly, my knowledge is mostly surface level.

I really see Hinduism as analogous to European paganism, and essentially an Eastern equivalent to what a lot of us here practice. The problem is, though, that the Hindu faith is so lush and rich as to be daunting and intimidating. In other words, it's hard for me to learn.

Does anybody incorporate Dharmic principles and practices into their own magick? I want to find a way to bridge the gap, so to speak, and better understand Hindu teachings so that I may have greater scope and understanding of the esoteric. Where would one start, in such an endeavor?
