Full and comprehensive post detailing 4 wisdom teeth operation experience
Post Body

This community was a huge help to me after my wisdom teeth removal and I would like to pay it forward and give my full experience for people who may be going through the same experience.

As of the time this post was written, I am 16 days post-op and feeling 100%.

Only 2 of my teeth were impacted at the time but I made the decision to have them all removed at the same time so I only had to go through the experience once.

On the day of my surgery, there was a brand new nurse who was being trained on how to use anastisia and stuff like that. I do have to admit that this brought up my blood pressure quite a bit. They put the IV in and started my on an IV drip. They put the EKG, cuff, and O2 monitor on me. The surgeon walked in and asked if I had any other question. I didn't and they put a nose mask on me for O2. He then said he was going to give me something to relax. Next thing I remember was waking up post-op.

The surgery took about an hour and a half from the time I walked back from the waiting room. When I woke up, I didn't act all silly like some people may suggest. In fact, most people are just normal when they wake up. My mouth was numb and felt nothing. After maybe 10 more minutes I was on my way to the pharmacy then home. I was prescribed a 5 day steroid to help with swelling, an antibiotic for 7 days, a mouth wash for 14 days, and an opioid (which I ended up never filling that prescription).

When I got home I changed my gause for the first time and attempted to take a sit of water (HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!!). When I spit the water cause I did't feel comfortable swallowing a bolod clot fell out. This made me extremely nervous that I was going to get a dry socket. I changed my gause every 20 minutes for 2 hours. By that point the only numb part of my mouth was the bottom right lip. In fact, the numbness didn't go away until 10pm that night. I used ice 30 minutes on/off for the first 2 days, and took 2 ibuprofen every 4 hours. My pain never went above a 5/10. Although it wasn't a knife stabbing pain, its a dull, long lingering pain. I slept in a recliner for the first 2 nights. I ate apple sauce and pudding the first day, and upgraded to pancakes and mac and cheese on day 2. By day 3 I indulged in a double quarter pounder from McDonald, although it did take a long time to complete it, only chewing with my front teeth. I would say by day 5 I was back to eating normal foods. In fact, on day 3 I drove 4 hours to go sign a lease on a new apartment and visit some friends. Didn't feel loopy at all.

I noticed on day 4 that I had really bad breath, which I learned was also common. It was very noticeable to me because I was wearing a face mask out in public. The best thing to do when this happens is to rinse your mouth was salt and warm water. In fact, I do this after every meal because food gets stuck in the holes very easy.

I had my post-op appointment yesterday and all is good. I still have about half of my stitches in my mouth. I was told I can swish mouthwash in my mouth now and use a straw (which I didn't realize how much I missed).

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask and I'll try to respond.

TL;DR Getting your wisdom teeth isn't as bad everyone says. Don't stress, and everything will be fine.
