Looking beyond the midterms, a reminder of the importance of the 2023 elections.

Unless you live in Virginia or New Jersey, odd year elections are generally considered incredibly uninteresting and receive very little turnout. However, as someone who won't be legally eligible until a few days afterwards, I implore you to vote in the 2023 election primarily because of one race, a seat on the state supreme court. Flipping the court to having a 4-3 liberal majority is the only viable method at this point to potentially stop the gerrymandering of the state legislature and make our state democratic again.

In particular, the only viable method to repeal the current abortion restrictions in the state would be to flip the court, hope that they declare political gerrymandering unconstitutional, win back the state legislature, and either already have won the governorship in 2022 or win it back in 2026.

As a reference, these are the years that each of the justice's seats will be up for grabs:
Roggensack (R) - 2023

A Bradley (D) - 2025

R Bradley (R) - 2026

Ziegler (R) - 2027

Dallet (D) - 2028

Hagedorn (R) - 2029 (He's the swing vote right now with the 4-3 conservative majority.)

Karofsky (D) - 2030
