Home help, Ubiquiti UniFi AP & verizon router, not discovering.
Post Body

I have FiOS but am looking to upgrade to 812.11n. I thought about just paying for Verizon's 812.11n router but figured I'd give other solutions a shot first. My plan was mostly to just get an 812.11n access point, plug it into the Verizon router, turn off the Verizon wifi and call it a day.

I searched for some access point recommendations and saw a number for the UniFi AP here and the reviews looked good so I picked one up. Things were going well but while trying to set up the UniFi AP, no devices are ever discovered. What I have is:

  • Wall -> FiOS (cable)
  • Main PC plugged into FiOS Router.
  • UniFi Ap plugged into FiOS router LAN port (from lan port of the POE adapter).

I get the controller steps going on the main pc but no devices are discovered, and the discovery tool doesn't find anything either.

I did a little searching and found some threads, but not a whole lot. Some said to putty into the AP and run set-inform. I found the IP from the FIOS router, putty'd in just fine and ran the set-inform for the ip of the controler(main-pc), but that didn't really change anything.

Am I just missing something fundamental (ie: I came up with a bad plan)? Do I need to be doing something in the FiOS router before trying to set this up? (other than turning wifi off which I don't assume is strictly required, but it was off). I did try powering everything down and up again with the router first.

Thanks.
