Installing latest Java 8 in Wine for Minecraft launched through CurseForge launched through Lutris

How do I install JREv8u281 such that CurseForge launched through Lutris sees the latest Java version instead of the default Minecraft one? If I just open the .exe the program hangs and the install window never opens, so I looked around and found this solution but I don't think it works for me unless I'm doing something wrong?

$ WINEPREFIX=~/Games/curseforge wine jre-8u281-windows-x64.exe /s

barfs out about a hundred of these:

0158:err:seh:dispatch_exception Fatal EXCEPTION_WINE_CXX_EXCEPTION exception (code=e06d7363) raised

and then closes. Suggestions welcome because I'm out of ideas. Maybe I could downgrade wine to the version that worked with the workaround, then update again? lol
