So for most of the songs, I like them a whole lot more when I feel the lyrics somewhat. Not specifically relate, but something in that area. For example, no-one in my family or community drinks (including me), so most alcohol-based songs are not related to by me. Except for the First Step. Because, and this is the negligible guilt part, of my unhealthy coca-cola coping mechanism. Basically whenever I get really unhappy, stressed or depressed, I immediately just head straight for the coke bottle. Whatever coke we have in the house, I just immediately drink it and let myself feel better. It's very silly, I know, but i feel pretty bad hearing him sing about his alcoholism and think "Oh Yeah That's Just Like Me With My Coca-Cola Zero!"
