are deer (big deer, not muntjac) dangerous? twice now i've been near them at night and they've seemingly been headed in my direction unafraid. during the day, they flee the moment they see me even if i'm across a field (sometimes people do this too actually, no idea why).
i'm sure the ones that can see me clearly will turn back. and i don't want to disturb them anyway. but i might be in woodland; if they came across me up close by surprise or I was blocking their route back to their fawn would i be in any danger? might seem a silly question but these things could do some damage to me if they wanted to so i'm paranoid lol.
also - is there any risk of them stepping on me when i'm sleeping?
Do you have anything to back up your statement regarding red stags having trampled people?
That was the purpose of my question. You claimed that they've killed people when cornered. There's no evidence I'm aware of for this with wild deer and you've been unable to substantiate the claim either. The example/anecdote you've given wasn't fatal, though I imagine it wasn't pleasant.
Yes they've attacked people and the absolutely could kill someone. The capacity is there. Given the lack of evidence for anyone being killed by wild deer in the UK other than in road traffic accidents, I'd say the original claim is false or at best conjecture, without any other supporting evidence. Though its still not advisable to try and corner a stag.

I realise my wording was more vague than intended. I was specifically meaning instances where the person was killed by a wild stag, as that was your original claim.
