Starting a new game, got some player backstories and wanted to gush a bit
Post Body

I’ve got a trio of players, so I might need to throw in some sidekicks, but having been running for 5 to 6 people in the past it’s refreshing to know I can throw in more active NPCs and not fuck with encounter balance. Especially knowing combat isn’t the only solution in this game.

But onto the cast!

I’ve got Meabh (Mayve), a Hexblood Alchemist, who was raised by Endelyn. It’s added a whole little subculture to the Hags, as their obsession with Iggy has driven them to try and make their own “Iggy”. Was raised in a cut throat environment, with a sort of twisted Summer Camp vibe to the competitions the hags would raise, pitting their hexbloods against each other a few times a year to foster hostility.

In the end despite their efforts Maebh still has some soul, and after a new and very young Hexblood joined the coven she decided she couldn’t be an accomplice to it. Broke out, while Endelyn was seeing to their coup they ended up using an artifact in her home to plane shift away. Ending up on the Warlock’s doorstep and with it she drew the Warlock’s attention to check in on Prismeer.

Davik the changeling Sorcerer, Clockwork with a twist. Instead of being connected to actual clockwork, it’s because they stole the Hourglass of Prismeer, which the Coven used to oversee as part of their duties. The hourglass is what controlled the flow of time in prismeer, how it lined up to the Material Plane and other Courts/Domains in the Feywild. Without it Time is Funky, with trips being highly variable and messing further with the time/space within the realm.

Did not engineer the plot on their own, was supposed to be an inconspicuous face that could wander in while their employer made distractions elsewhere. In the end they had to book it, and have been hiding out in the Carnival ever since. Has the Withlight Hand background, and we decided their companion was an aging Faerie Dragon named Candor who does not mince their words, and speaks often about how if they could they would like to leave the carnival, but feel too unsafe doing so on their own.

I was thinking of having the employer be Skylla, to add some nefarious backstabbing to Endelyn's plot. She doesn’t want to be under the hags, and was looking for a means to overstep them and Iggy, and to take her future back into her hands and out of Endelyn's.

The last one is Luca the Wild Surge Barbarian, variant human but taking advantage of it and my Free Feat rule to take some flavorful Magic Initiate spells. When they were young they got swept into a Wild Hunt, and spent decades journeying alongside the Hunt through the Fey and Material, fully lost in the enchantment of the hunt. Until recently, when after an encounter with a strange Lycanthrope left them cursed. The Hunt cannot abide lycans, they are hard to charm and are seen more a challenge to hunt than a companion to hunt alongside.

Luca was let go, and leaving the Hunt means losing all memories of it, only a foggy recollection of the lead Hunter’s face and confusing memories of a past life that cannot be returned to. Thankfully for the plot her companion (a blink dog) managed to help her escape freely. Mustering all the strength he could he pulled himself and Luca out of the Fey, dropping them in the middle of a village with a certain Archfey Warlock nearby. Is now pretty tuckered out, won’t be Blinking for awhile but makes a good Familiar nonetheless.

Need to add a bit to the Module for the Wild Hunt to fit, but I think I could make it a pretty fun side quest that happens in Thither, the Huntsman trapped in the Domain alongside the party, and causing some havoc.

Going slightly against the grain, the party knows a fair bit about both Prismeer and the Hags out of the gate, but I really liked the ideas that my Alchemist and Sorcerer brought to the table so I wanted to lean into it. Doesn’t make as much sense for them to be ignorant, so they both know the Hags have done some Fuckery, but not sure on any exact details yet.

The module has me so excited, I love all these weird NPCs they’ve made up and am super inspired to continue that thread.
