Trouble connecting to Mario kart Wii online

Today I've been trying to play mkwii online because I've seen people playing online on YouTube and I never had a chance to when the official servers were still up so I thought I'd give it a go. I've tried connecting using DNS, I haven't got CTGP or anything like that but the tutorial I watched didn't say I needed to.

When I try to connect the connecting to wfc message plays for a while, then I get error code 20100. I've made sure I'm connected properly and everything, so I'm not really sure where I've gone wrong. If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it :)
