Running everything from SD card on soft modded Wii?

I have a soft modded Wii with homebrew channel. Right now I am using USB loader to run Wii games from a thumb drive. Can I do the same thing from the SD reader? Can the SD card hold and run both the USB loader app and games?
Sorry if this is a basic question but I've messed up a previous mod and am super nervous now that I have the Wii working again. THIA.
