Is Plastic Recyling a real thing here or just greenwashing?

Post Body

Moved to Austria a bit ago and trying to be a good citizen by dropping off my plastic recycling in the yellow bins but given everything I've read online I have a nagging feeling that this is some sort of eco-theater. A conscience cleansing service provided by the MA48.

According to this link "71% of the plastic waste undergo thermal recycling". Anyone know if this can be trusted?

Context behind my skepticism: Metal and glass recycling is legit but plastic recycling doesnt make any economic sense since it produces an inferior product that is not economically viable given the recycling cost. It's an idea supposedly promoted by Oil companies to make plastics consumption more tolerable.
