Sad news-- I learned that Gary Gwynn, owner of Shoebox Shave Shop, died earlier this year.

Shoebox Shave Shop has not had much hype around it recently, but it has been around since 2009(!) and Gary brought a lot of interesting, otherwise unheard of products to US wet shavers. For example, he (and only he) was selling Alpa Fougere aftershave-- which comes out of the Czech Republic-- long before fougeres were de rigeur for artisans.

His site design definitely showed its age, but the product descriptions showed his personality, opinions, and sense of humor. And if you ever had occasion to correspond with him about an order, you found that he was just a really warm, friendly guy.

The site is still up and functional, with orders being fulfilled by family, but they don't intend to do so on a long term basis.
