This may be a bit long winded, but I donβt know any firefighters on the fire department personally and I have some questions that I would very much appreciate answers to. Does the Wichita Fire Department run ALS on any of their trucks, or are they strictly BLS city wide? Are firefighters that are Nationally Registered paramedics allowed to practice their skills, or are they restricted to a BLS skill set while on duty? If they are allowed to use their medical skills on calls, are they compensated for being a paramedic? I know Sedgwick County EMS has faced various staffing issues and was wondering what the discussion around this was, and what solutions have been presented. Any response is greatly appreciated, I will be getting out of the military soon and am trying to decide if going to school to be a paramedic is worth it, so any insider info would be super helpful.
