There are 13 teams in the league with a lower payroll than the White Sox in 2024 and they are all performing better. Amongst those teams are the twins, royals, brewers, orioles, guardians. Those are some of the best teams in the league.
How is it that we still blame Jerry for not spending money when all of these other teams can figure out how to develop winning teams on a lower budget?
And how do these teams figure out how to succeed???
Player development and analytics. The white Sox have infamously been behind on new technology, analytics, and proper development. They still operate on a very old school model.
This leads to all the blunders and “White Sox moments” because every good team in the league is one step ahead of every single play. This could also be a result for all the injuries seen every year.
The point is that money doesn’t need to be allocated to the players, it needs to go to new scouts, coaches, internal staff and front office, facilities, equipment, and as much knowledge as possible.
The sad news is that Getz before becoming the GM was head of player development for the white Sox… so a failure like him is not going to have any understanding on that issue
But anyways it’s not all about money. The dodgers and Yankees have a lot of money and yes it helps but the reason they are dominant every single year is because of the fact that they have the best coaches and staff in the world. Mets are leaders in payroll every year and yet somehow always struggle to get in the playoffs.
What do you guys think?
