I'm thrilled they are gone. Good riddance.
I find it surprising that no one has mentioned that in 48 hours, a Chicago business newspaper printed a story, based on unknown sources, spoke of the possibility of the team moving to Nashville, and the next day, the #1 and #2 employees get canned.
They had to go, but why now? The White Sox don't fire people during the season, then boom. Reinsdorf has loyalty toward those that are loyal to him. A person or two said something to the wrong person, were too loud over drinks, or just didn't care because they knew they were gone anyway.
After the past 22 months of horrid performance, a shit-the-bed manager hire, a furious fanbase (with a group of Oakland supporters coming to join in), and woeful attendance and revenue, that locked up their fate.
But when the White Sox business comes to light…Jerry said get out.
I think most on this sub thought that they were gone - I was shocked at the timing.
That’s Sports Illustrated, obtained from Crain’s. This isn’t created stories like Sports Mockery or The Daily Mail.
I agree, it gets clickthroughs, but Crain’s is rock-steady in local business journalism. But we are throwing pebbles.
It’s just peculiar, like you said.
